Subject: Can you share your story on Wednesday?

Dear MoveOn Member,

We're at a critical moment: President Obama is working with Congress on an economic-recovery plan, and there's a real struggle going on over whether it will include important investments like green jobs, health care, and clean energy. Lobbyists and their conservative allies in Congress are working hard to kill these important provisions and instead spend that money on tax cuts for the rich.

That's why we're organizing events this Wednesday, January 14th, to tell our elected officials that Americans want a bold, progressive plan—NOT more tax cuts for the rich. And we could really use your help.

If you've been affected by the economic crisis, your story could make the critical difference with your elected officials. Or maybe you have a "green job" or own a small business and can speak about why investing in things like energy, health care and state infrastructure would make a big difference for you and folks you know. If so, Congress needs to hear from you right away.

Can you speak for just two or three minutes at Wednesday's event? Here are the details:

Host: Marla D—fellow MoveOn member
Where: Ron Klein's Office (in Boca Raton)
When: Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at 2:00 PM

Here's the link to RSVP:

You don't need any public-speaking experience—it's best if you just speak from the heart about your specific situation. Here are some helpful tips to get you started:
  • Are you facing foreclosure or were you laid off from your job? Talk about how the recession has affected you—and how help for the middle class might improve your situation.
  • Are you a small business owner? Talk about how the tough times have affected your business. Are you hiring fewer people? Having to lay some off?
  • Do you have a "green collar" or a health care job? Talk about your career and how increased investment in your field would lead to more jobs like yours.
Sharing our stories in a public forum is a crucial step towards helping Obama fix our ailing economy. We need to speak up right now—before it's too late. If you can speak, we'd be very grateful. If you can't, you can still make a big difference by simply showing up to help demonstrate to your members of Congress and the media how important this issue is to folks in your community.
