 Volunteers from the Financial Planning Association of Miami-Dade County joined the Neighbors 4 Neighbors/CBS4 Financial Advising Phone Bank to answer viewer's financial questions. Al's "4 Your Money" segment has also fetured Foreclosure Prevention Specialists, to help those south Florida homeowners who are facing foreclosure. Hundreds of calls came through - putting many in our community in touch with resources that can help them make the most of their money during these difficult economic times. | An Angel Who Graces The Spirit Of Giving | |
 Grace Emery is a vibrant little girl. She's outspoken, and a real leader among her peers. It's not surprising when one day she asked her parents how she could give back to her community.Grace described to Neighbors4Neighbors producer Nicole Maristany Krauss how her desire to help others took shape. "Well, I wanted to help people, so my dad said that we could go online." As a family, the Emery's looked into some local non-profit groups, and Best Buddies caught their eyes. Grace decided to go door to door in her neighborhood and around the classrooms at school to see if she could inspire people to donate to the organization. Grace explained what it was like, " I practiced what I was going to say and then went out there. I didn't care how much it was... 25-cents, $100, whatever money they had it's fine with me." | South Florida Camp Offering Cancer Victims Hope | |
 A special kind of camp in South Florida is giving children more than something to do this summer. It's giving them the opportunity to forget they're cancer patients, but now, the camp needs your help."So what do you think of this camp," CBS4's Jorge Estevez asked a 10-year-old camper. "I think it's really nice," responded Aaron Rodriguez Pupo. Aaron is a cancer survivor who came to camp for the first time. Camp Fiesta is really a party for Aaron and the rest of the kids. From card games to darts, from checkers to outdoor fun, Camp Fiesta gives patients a dose of what they really need for free. For twenty years now the camp joins kids together for nine days. They go on day trips, overnight trips, and even to Disney World. The cabins at the camp site are a favorite for the kids. They sleep about ten in bunk beds. It's a constant slumber party. For Aaron, it's a necessity. Aaron had Leukemia when he was four. "I told my mom."Mom, I think that I am going to die," said Aaron. A reality most of these kids face, but Camp Fiesta provides an escape from the bad memories. "People were crying which made me feel worse cause if people are crying for me then that's a very bad thing," remembered Aaron. "It's a place where you are surrounded by people who have been through the same things," admitted Aaron. Time spent away from the memories and with those who can understand them is truly a good time. And when asked if there is always a "fiesta" at Camp Fiesta, Aaron responded. "All the time." So whether it's canoeing, playing games or staying overnight, for nine days, these kids feel like everybody else and after all, they say Camp Fiesta is the greatest camp in the history of the world. | Marlins Donate To Transitioning Youth Project | |
 CBS4 and Neighbors 4 Neighbors has been looking into a topic that many of you many not know about or consider - the hundreds of teens transitioning out of foster care each year. From time to time, we'll be bringing you some of their stories. Handling emotional hurdles are not the only challenges the teens will come across. With the skyrocketing cost of living in South Florida, even a monthly stipend from the state isn't enough to make ends meet. In both Miami Dade and Broward counties those transitioning out of the system are eligible for a "Road to Independence" scholarship. In Miami Dade, teens who age out of the system receive $829 per month, in Broward the amount is $1,014 per month. | |
| Heaven Sent Grooves Food Drive | |
 Heaven Sent Grooves will be holding 2 food drives in August. The first food drive will take place on August 8, 2008 at Blue located at 222 Espanola Way Miami Beach from 10pm to 5am, where they are asking for their patrons, friends & other party goers to bring in 5 cans of food, they in return will be giving them a free complimentary mixed cd from HSG.  Neat Stuff, Inc. is a local 501(c) (3) founded in 1995 is to fill the gaps that separate abused, neglected and other at-risk children from those having a stable childhood. Our vision is to inspire the self-worth, dignity and pride of at-risk children by providing new clothing and school uniforms free of charge. Neat Stuff is the only agency of its kind in South Florida. To serve its mission, Neat Stuff manages a store in Miami which is open all year to serve South Florida's at-risk children. As a matter of fact, over 7,000 needy children visited us this past year! This coming school year, our goal is to provide a one-week supply of new school uniforms to at least 1,000 needy children. | Backpack Project Provides For Kids In Need | |
 "Kids are identified on the first day of school there are the haves and the have-nots." "They spare the kids the humiliation, instead of a high school kid walking in with a Publix bag and a pack of notebook paper, they walk in and they are just like everyone else" said Davis. This year the program is at risk as the bad economy has affected their funding. Recently, Farm Share has acquired the program in hopes of saving it. "We are going to need all the help we can we don't know if we can keep this up for another year like we have in the past two years" said Yvette Rodriguez of Farm Share. This year only 5,000 back packs will be given out. In the past there was enough money for 6,000. Now the hope is that the community will step in to keep Kids4Kids up and running. The student volunteers hope that people donate money so they can keep this process going so other kids can have a happy school year.
